Wang Hongzhi, Administrator of China's National Energy Administration: Strengthening China-UK Cooperation in Hydrogen Energy and Other Fields

On October 24, 2025, Wang Hongzhi, Administrator of China's National Energy Administration, met in Suzhou with Rachel Kyte, the UK's Special Representative for Climate Affairs, and Nicholas Burns, the British Ambassador to China, who were in China to attend the 2025 International Forum on Energy Transition. The two sides exchanged views on key topics regarding energy development and transition.

Wang Hongzhi stated that since the 8th China-UK Energy Dialogue, interactions between the two sides in the field of clean energy have been frequent, yielding fruitful results. China is willing to continue strengthening exchanges and cooperation with the UK in key areas such as the electricity market, hydrogen energy, and energy storage, to advance the green and low-carbon transition of the energy sector and jointly promote energy security and sustainable development.

Rachel Kyte and Nicholas Burns applauded the remarkable achievements China has made in its energy development and transition, and spoke highly of the China-UK cooperation in clean energy. They expressed the UK's willingness to strengthen cooperation with China to elevate the China-UK clean energy partnership to a new level.

The meeting was attended by Lu Junling, Chief Economist of the National Energy Administration, along with principal officials from the Department of Legal Affairs and Reform, the Department of Science, Technology and Equipment, the Department of Market Regulation, and the Department of International Cooperation.

During the International Forum on Energy Transition, the China-UK Hydrogen and Energy Storage Cooperation Forum was held in Suzhou. Liu Deshun, Director-General of the Department of Energy Conservation, Science, Technology and Equipment of the National Energy Administration, and Rachel Kyte, the UK Government's Special Envoy for Climate Change, attended the forum.

In her address, Rachel Kyte stated that hydrogen energy and energy storage are strategic enablers of clean, safe, and affordable energy. The UK looks forward to deepening cooperation with China in hydrogen energy, energy storage, and other areas under the framework of the China-UK Clean Energy Partnership, working with all parties to promote their global development and deployment, and jointly advancing the global energy transition and green, low-carbon development.

Additionally, a China-UK Hydrogen Dialogue was held concurrently during the forum. This dialogue facilitated in-depth exchanges on topics including the application of hydrogen energy technologies, policy support, and industrial strategies in both countries, further expanding the breadth and depth of China-UK energy cooperation.

Following the forum, a China-UK Hydrogen and Energy Storage Cooperation Reception was held as scheduled. This reception provided a relaxed business exchange platform for Chinese and British guests, helping all parties to further connect resources and discuss cooperation in an informal setting, thereby sustaining the momentum of collaboration generated by the forum.

This forum marks a new phase of in-depth cooperation between China and the UK in the fields of energy storage and hydrogen energy.
