Photovoltaic water electrolysis hydrogen production is a technology that combines solar power generation and electrolytic water hydrogen production into a system. It has a development history of 40 years and is considered one of the most promising methods for hydrogen production. Hydrogen production using photovoltaic power generation mainly utilizes the direct current generated by the photovoltaic power generation system to directly supply the hydrogen production station for hydrogen production.

Compared to traditional power stations, photovoltaic DC power generation systems reduce the processes of inversion and boosting. The main equipment and facilities include photovoltaic modules, combiner boxes, supports, foundations, grounding devices, etc. The photovoltaic modules can be configured in series or parallel according to the input voltage and current requirements of the hydrogen production station, thereby improving the system efficiency.

Currently, water electrolysis hydrogen production technology is mature, with simple equipment, convenient operation and management, high purity hydrogen production, and no pollution. However, the high power consumption cost is a significant reason why most companies avoid water electrolysis hydrogen production. Nevertheless, with the continuous advancement of large-scale photovoltaic technology and the gradual reduction in electricity prices, the current cost in most regions is maintained at around 0.29 yuan per kilowatt-hour.

Moreover, according to incomplete statistics on the internet, there are currently 30 "green hydrogen" projects in preparation or construction nationwide. Among them, over 20 projects have chosen the "photovoltaic + hydrogen" technical route. With the implementation of these projects, the continuous expansion of photovoltaic installed capacity, and further reductions in power generation costs, it is expected that photovoltaic hydrogen production will further decline in the future, entering a positive development cycle.
